As artificial intelligence (AI) gets better at recognizing human emotions, a vast new field is opening up for designers and product creators to help people better understand each other and themselves. An emotional layer might be integrated into products, and the output of digital services will be more involved in managing our emotional well-being at its full breadth, from grief to love.
This new field presents both challenges and opportunities. On the one hand, we need to be careful about not over-interpreting or even manipulating people’s emotions. On the other hand, there is great potential to use this technology for good, to help people manage their emotions better and to build more streamlined user-friendly interfaces that adapt to any emotion.
As we move into this new era, it is important to keep the challenges and opportunities in mind. As designers, we need to be mindful of the power of this technology. UX Salon 2022 in Tel-Aviv will include a discussion on Emotional Technology with Ilya Oskolkov-Tsentsiper, Product & Customer Experience Designer and an expert in this field.
